Fulton Independent Schools teachers and staff recently participated in a summer technology workshop available through the district’s partnership with Dataseam, with each educator earning a new classroom workstation beginning the upcoming academic year.
Dataseam, an education and workforce education organization based in Louisville, works with Kentucky K-12 schools, improving the state’s technology workforce as part of providing new classroom technology to schools addressing advanced curriculum needs preparing students for next-generation workforce demands.
Fulton City has been a partner in the statewide program since 2019. District’s participation has brought students and staff more than $70,000 in new classroom technology over the last year.
“This was a great start to our upcoming academic year,” said Terry Sullivan, Fulton Independent Superintendent. “Every Fulton Independent teacher available to participate was present, earning in a single day the equivalent of five and half years of technology funding otherwise available to us a smaller district. This continues to help us provide competitive instructional opportunity for our students and community. These new classroom computers help us while we help Dataseam and the University of Louisville find new ways to fight cancer.”
Computers provided by Dataseam are linked across the state district-by-district to assemble the DataseamGrid, a vital piece of Kentucky’s innovation and commercialization network. It helps the University of Louisville’s Brown Cancer Center develop more effective cancer drugs quicker and with reduced costs. The cancer computations run securely in the background and do not impede the districts daily classroom and Internet demands. Dataseam has worked in partnership for over 20 years with Kentucky K-12 schools advancing these efforts.
“It’s been a busy summer for Dataseam schools statewide. We were excited to finish the season with Fulton City educators and staff,” said Brian Gupton, Dataseam. “Our Eastern Kentucky K-12 technology team made the trip to provide the instruction and create relationships bridging the state in the days to come. We’re all thankful to the Kentucky General Assembly supporting the statewide effort.”
House Floor Leader Rep. Steven Rudy, Paducah, shared, “Fulton Independent’s continued partnership with Dataseam is a great example of how smart investments in education benefit our communities in more ways than one. Not only are they equipping classrooms with the tools students need to succeed, but students get a front-row seat to see how technology can be used for life-saving cancer research right here in Kentucky. I’m particularly happy to see programs like this connect innovation, workforce readiness, and real-world impact for our students and our state.”
With efforts funded by state and federal funding and appropriation through the Kentucky General Assembly, Dataseam now serves 59 Kentucky districts accounting for 40% of the state’s over 630,000 K-12 public school students.
